Take delight in wide open spaces and fill your lungs with fresh air while participating in the wonders of horse country. The Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races are favored local events held annually at Great Meadow. The Virginia Gold Cup is held during the spring and The International Gold Cup held in the fall. Both races offer an exciting day filled with racing, rail or hillside tailgating, people watching, and great conversation set among some of the most beautiful countryside that Virginia has to offer.
Spring races draw greater crowds and generate an excitement of their own, while fall races are more casual and low key, allowing the day to be enjoyed for the events offered. Both fall and spring races include contests for tailgating and hats along with betting on horses. In the spring, stick around and wrap up the day by watching the Kentucky Derby on one of the jumbotrons at 6:50pm.
